News of her romance with Harry Styles sparked Twitter death threats from furious One Direction fans – so you’d think she’d be keeping a low profile.
But defiant Caroline Flack made her first public appearance as the floppy-haired teenager’s girlfriend watching One Direction in action at a London gig this week. And it seems she still hasn’t won over the boyband’s fans.
TV presenter Caroline, 32, was subjected to a stream of abuse for much of their gig on Wednesday evening from Harry’s die-hard following.
A herd of militant Harry fans sported banners with the message: “Flack off, Caroline”.
And outside the Hammersmith Apollo one enterprising stall holder was selling whistles, telling concert-goers: “Whistle if you hate Caroline Flack.”
All 150 whistles sold out.
Says my mole: “Caroline was spotted within minutes of entering the venue. The mainly female audience started pointing and jeering, and making a few unsavoury comments – although a lot of the younger fans were being really sweet.
“When she clocked the banners, Caroline was mortified and didn’t know where to look.”
My insider continues: “Aside from this, she had a great evening and loved seeing the band in action properly for the first time. She was dancing and singing along to What Makes You Beautiful and Gotta Be You with the rest of the capacity crowd – at one point, Harry gave her a cheeky nod and wink.”
Despite the big age gap and recent rumours that the couple had split up, things appear to be going from strength to strength for them.
Days after returning from a girls’ holiday in India, Caroline was pictured wearing the Links bracelet previously seen on her 17-year-old boyfriend’s own fair wrist.
I’m told: “Harry and Caroline are equally smitten, but the furore surrounding their relationship makes things 10 times harder. They’d love to be open and upfront about everything but they don’t want to upset Harry’s legion of female fans. It’s been really tough on Caroline.”
Fresh from picking up a Brits nomination, the One Direction lads – Niall, Liam, Louis, Harry and Zayn – spent yesterday morning queuing at the American Embassy in London, waiting to collect their approved US visas.
They join forces with Big Time Rush this year for their first transatlantic tour.
